Biology — see departmental website
Furman's Biology Department offers programs leading to B.S. and B.A. degrees. Approximately half of our students seek careers in human health, while others pursue work in research, secondary school education, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, veterinary medicine, and many others. The department is especially known for providing many opportunities for "trying out" career activities in undergraduate research and internship positions, and a substantial number of biology majors participate in summer research both on- and off-campus.... Chemistry — see departmental website
Furman's Chemistry Department ranks among the top 10 undergraduate colleges in the country in producing Ph.D. candidates in chemistry, and among the top 25 of all universities in graduates certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS), averaging 30 per year. Our students are consistently among the national leaders in publishing and presenting the results of their research, and its innovative curriculum has been cited by ACS as a model for other schools. The department offers a challenging, contemporary curriculum taught by gifted, resourceful, enthusiastic, (perhaps a little eccentric) faculty members who love their students and their discipline of chemistry.... Computer Science
— see departmental website
Furman's Computer Science Department offers majors in Computer Science and Information Technology. It also participates in an interdisciplinary major, Computer Science - Mathematics (jointly with Mathematics). Computing majors have assisted faculty members in ongoing research supported by grants from NASA, NSF, Andrew Mellon Foundation, Apple Computer, and Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network. Often this research leads to publications and presentations at professional conferences. Many computing majors present papers at regional and national competitions, and many have won awards for their work.... More INFO |

Earth & Environmental Sciences (EES) — see departmental website
The strength of the EES Program is our emphasis on undergraduate teaching in both classroom and research settings, which provides excellent preparation to our students for graduate school and professional careers. The department also has a strong tradition of laboratory and field experiences. Small classes result in plenty of individual attention, and faculty members are known for their interest in and camaraderie with students.... More INFO |

Physics — see departmental website
Furman's Physics Department strives to provide every student with distinct advantages that only a small, intimate program can provide — students work in close proximity with accomplished professors to make significant advancements in both physics research and their personal educations. Our faculty includes experimentalists and theoreticians, a balance which provides for a very well-rounded collegiate experience. Students are given access to excellent laboratory and computer facilities which encourage “hands-on” experimentation.... More INFO |

Psychology — see departmental website
Furman's psychology program is among the best in the nation. We are a talented, dedicated, and relatively diverse group of faculty who are united by our commitment to undergraduate education and to our view of psychology as a science. We aspire to excellence in the classroom, and we are convinced that discovery-based research opportunities and meaningful internship opportunities are vital to an outstanding undergraduate education in psychology. We have exciting curriculum that starts with foundational courses and ends with small, seminar-based capstone experiences. With eight full-time faculty members and about 30 graduating majors per year, the department is small enough to offer students close, personal interaction with professors.... More INFO |
